A special section of A Style Soiree dedicated to the Latin American identity.
“People think of Latina women as being fiery and fierce, which is usually true. But I think the quality that so many Latinas possess is strength. I’m very proud to have Latin blood” — Zoe Soldana
Barbie has introduced its 2016 Fashionistas line and it made me VERY happy. At 28 years old, I felt like I could finally relate to this beautiful doll that I had created so many fond memories with. I LOVED playing with all my Barbies as a little girl and even still have them all in a pink Barbie suitcase at my parent’s home, along with all my accessories and furniture which are stored in boxes. I kept them because, not only did my parents feel bad about getting rid of my favourite childhood toys, but most importantly because I wanted to one day share them with my daughter.
Empowerment, Latinidad and Feminism are three terms that come to mind when I think of descriptive terms for A Latina Soiree. A strong and confident Latina is more than what the media wants us to identify with; we’re definitely more than curvy and sultry chicas or mamasitas! I have to note, I don’t directly identify as a Latina Feminist Blogger, but I definitely do relate with many of the topics and themes that these brilliant ladies share with their readers.
If you follow me on social media, or know me personally, you KNOW how proud I am of my Latina American roots. I am a “Proud Peruvian” as I mention in my personal Twitter bio. When I thought about what I wanted my blog to be about, I knew I wanted to highlight my Hispanic background and all the wonderful features that come with it. I particularly wanted to celebrate Latin American women. We are strong, fierce, outspoken, loud, sassy and so much more! We’re truly a force to be reckoned with. That is how A Latina Soiree was born!
