The work of Pixar is truly magic. From Finding Dory to Monsters Inc., Disney Pixar and their talented team of animators and story writers have brought brilliant tales to life. In 2017, they are bringing Coco to the big screen, as well as smiles to everyone that sees it. Why is Coco so outstanding? Keep reading and find out why this movie is unlike any other than Pixar has done.
Disney Pixar’s Coco
Pixar summarizes the movie’s story in the following way:
Despite his family’s baffling generations-old ban on music, Miguel (voice of newcomer Anthony Gonzalez) dreams of becoming an accomplished musician like his idol, Ernesto de la Cruz (voice of Benjamin Bratt). Desperate to prove his talent, Miguel finds himself in the stunning and colorful Land of the Dead following a mysterious chain of events. Along the way, he meets charming trickster Hector (voice of Gael García Bernal), and together, they set off on an extraordinary journey to unlock the real story behind Miguel’s family history.
Coco seems like a beautiful story about family, overcoming obstacles, and following your dreams. Why would you not take your children to see a wonderful movie like this one?! Check out the official trailer below:
The trailer was released a two days ago and already has hit 1.2 million views. This movie is not only highly talked about because it is one of Pixar’s upcoming releases, but because of its cast.
It seems like the cast is fully Latinx, which is brilliant! This isn’t just about “Viva La Raza!”, but rather this is of high importance because so many times we see non-POC actors and actresses being cast in POC cultural films. Parts that should go to actors and actresses of that culture are given to “more popular” actors and actresses that will bring in higher box office numbers. Disney seems to be making a push against this, first starting with Moana and now with Coco. After all, Latinxs are one of the largest populations in the US, so why wouldn’t all multi-million of us support this film? Why wouldn’t we want to support our people? Those high box office rankings are an easy win!
Okay, that’s enough to get you thinking for this post… let’s get to the cast:
Anthony Gonzalez will play Miguel.
Gael Garcia Bernal will play Hector.
Jaime Camil will play Papá. You may know him from one of my fave show, Jane The Virgin.
