Oscars

Being a mom makes it quite impossible for me to stay up as late as ever to watch the full Oscars. If you’re a fellow mama, or just a busy bee, you’re in luck as I’ve done the work for you and compiled the best of the 2017 Oscars. Enjoy!

2017 Oscars

Truth be told, I didn’t watch the whole Oscars segment, but rather followed online. I did some scanning and research early this morning to find the moments you need to know about. You can find the good, the bad, and the Stave Harvey moments below.

Iranian Director Wins Best Foreign Language Film

What is more amazing about the Iranian director winning an Oscar, is that he did not attend the ceremony to make a stand. Asghar Farhadi did not attend the ceremony in solidarity with the people from 6 nations that are not allowed to enter the United States. Below are the highlights of his powerful acceptance speech, condemning Donald Trump’s Muslim Ban.

This is a BIG DEAL, especially in today’s United States. If you have seen Moonlight, you know that this Academy Award is so incredibly well-deserved by Mahershala Ali.

‘Moana’ Oscars Performance

I’m obsessed with the movie Moana and even more with this song; it touches my heart! One of the biggest pushes towards diversity in Hollywood was the casting of Auli’i Carvalho to play Moana in the very popular Disney movie. Of course, Lin-Manuel Miranda (who, in my opinion, is the epitome of talent), writer of the song, introduced her with an original rap.

Chrissy Teigen is a Mom

This is my very favourite moment BY FAR from the 2017 Oscars. Chrissy Teigen living the #MomLife during the Oscars is all of us. There are so many times that I’ve been out past 10pm and my eyes are literally closing. So Chrissy, I get it!

I am happy to conclude that the Oscars belonged to people of colour this year. The 2017 Academy Awards showcased and highlighted a strong push towards diversity in Hollywood, and more significantly support for diversity in the United States. With the recent events, this is very important.

This year’s Oscars have definitely stood out from the rest for many reasons. Hopefully as we produce more films, direct more pictures, and cast more actors and actresses, Hollywood proves to keep with the current rhythm of diversity and representation in the film industry.
